The Mesoamerican Caribbean Ecoregion comprises the second largest reef formation in the world and is the most extensive coral reef system in the Americas and the Atlantic Ocean.
Extending from the northern tip of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula to the Bay Islands of Honduras, the Mesoamerican Reef includes the reef formations of Belize, the Caribbean Coast of Guatemala and the Northwest Atlantic coast of Honduras to Punta Sal.
It is one of the most diverse of all coral reef formations in the world and is a Global 200 priority ecoregion for WWF.
